Automation Brewhouse BIOS

Automation brewhouse The brewing process at brewery BIOS-Van Steenberge (Ertvelde Belgium) was previously controlled by a combination of a Siemens S5 PLC and a Mona Visualization system. These components are outdated, therefore it’s difficult to replace them in case of failure.To ensure continuity of the production, procAT was asked to develop and implement a new, more reliable control system.

The automation for the entire brewing house is completely recipe based. These recipes can be totally managed by the user.

bedienbeeld_1_bioskl.jpgBased on the information of the production division and the existing electrical drawings a detailed functional analysis was developed by the engineers of procAT. The new control system selected by procAT consists of a Siemens S7400 PLC in combination with a server-client WinCC application(SCADA system).

 

 

The brew installation contains:

Automation brewhouse
  • A dry materials installation with 4 silo’s
  • A weighing and milling system,
  • 2 mixing vessels, a filter vessel, a holding vessel,
  • A boiling vessel and whirlpool vessel
  • An in-line wort cooling
  • A CIP station
  • A process water installation

 The automation for the entire brewing house is completely recipe based. These recipes can be totally managed by the user.

With the visualization system, a production planning for the recipes and/or varieties of beer, that must be brewed, can be set up. All constructive parameters are accessible in the visualization system and managed by the person in charge. All measurements are trended and traceable.

Automation brewhouseAccording to the wishes of the brewery, a report tool was also added. With this tool different relevant parameters of each batch are stored in a report. This report can be accessed with MS EXCEL.

Thanks to an excellent preparation and planning , the replacement of the old system and the implementation of the new software, was accomplished within 5 workdays.
